General Questions:
- What are your hours of operation?
- Our office is open from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. If you have any non-immediate questions, we also check our email often. Generally, our moves take place between 7am and 10pm, but we are willing to move any time of day or night, including weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
- Are you licensed, bonded and insured?
- You betcha!
- What are your rates?
- We charge a competitive hourly rate that depends on several factors, including the number of men needed to execute your move, travel distance between your initial and final destinations, and other considerations. We regularly conduct market research to guarantee that our rates stay competitive.
- Do you have an hourly minimum?
- Yes, but it’s only one hour, not two hours or more, as is the case with the vast majority of our competitors.
- What payment methods do you accept?
- We wish we could get paid in gold... At present, we graciously accept cash or check.
- Do you provide a receipt?
- Yes, we will provide you with a bill of lading.
- How far in advance do I need to book my move?
- The end of the month is by far the busiest time to schedule a move, so please contact us in advance to make sure that we have availability. That said, we are happy to accommodate last-minute moves—for instance, when other moving companies don’t show up—when our schedule allows.
- What about deposits/cancellation fees?
- We neither require deposits nor charge for cancellations. We do, however, appreciate as much advance notice as you can provide in the event that you need to cancel, since this will enable us to book other potential clients.
- What’s this about you being athletic?
- We pride ourselves on being smart, athletic, and fast. By moving you quickly, we get a great workout and you get a great savings over the competition. (Please see below for recommendations on tipping for speedy service... *wink*, *wink*.)
Moving Services:
- What size move can you accommodate?
- Our 16-foot box trucks can typically accommodate a 1-2 bedroom apartment. For 3-bedroom apartments, single family homes, and larger moves, please contact us.
- What geographical area do you service? Do you provide long-distance moves?
- We service Chicago and its immediate suburbs, but typically do not travel beyond a 60-mile radius. We do not provide long-distance moves, but we do frequently provide truck-loading service for out-of-town moves.
- I am moving in from out-of-state. Can you help me unload my truck when I arrive?
- Absolutely. We do truck loads and unloads, pod loads and unloads, and other labor that requires heavy lifting.
- Do you move pianos and other large, unruly items?
- We currently do not move pianos, but please call or email us to obtain more specific information about moving your other large items.
- Do you move at odd times (holidays, evenings, weekends, early mornings)?
- We are willing to move you at anytime you’d like, because we love to move.
Moving Day:
- Do you provide blankets and shrink-wrap?
- When using our truck, yes: we provide blankets and shrink-wrap free of charge. When loading and unloading trucks, we recommend getting a bundle or two of moving blankets from your truck rental company. A bundle of moving blankets generally costs no more than $10.
- Do you provide moving supplies, wardrobe boxes, etc.?
- Not at the moment, but we will be in the near future!
- How will you transport my belongings?
- We have a fleet of 16' and 22' box trucks, unless you choose to rent a truck yourself.
- Is tipping customary, and what is the standard tip?
- It’s no secret that movers love tips. Our crew hustles as much as possible in part to obtain a tip adequate to the effort exerted. So while tipping is not necessary, it is customary, and moreover is greatly appreciated if you are satisfied with our service. The amount is totally up to you. As a general guideline, however, “good” tips typically amount to an extra $5 per hour per mover, “great” tips to approximately $10 per hour per mover, and “fantastic” tips anywhere beyond $10 per hour per mover.
- What if something gets damaged during the move?
- Our primary goal is to make you as satisfied as possible, so in the unfortunate and unlikely event that an item is damaged, we will either compensate you, replace the item, or provide a repair.
- What if the actual time is longer or shorter than the estimate?
- An estimate is just that, an estimate; and while our estimates are typically very accurate, there are sometimes unforeseeable events that can lengthen a move (traffic, more stuff than anticipated, bad weather--rare in Chicago...). Clearly we do our best to hit or beat our targets. If when we arrive we notice a longer move than expected, we will adjust our estimate on the scene.
- How can I prepare for my move?
- To help prepare for your move, please visit our moving tips.
- Can I help during the move?
- We welcome you to contribute as much or as little as you’d like on move day. Then again, you hired us for a reason and you are (hopefully) in charge of your wallet. We leave this answer entirely up to you. Just don’t get hurt, because we don’t specialize in moving bodies.
